Dr. R Scott Reid M.B.E. M.B. C.H.B.
Bath President 1938-1946 and 1958-1960
Chairman 1930-1938
Awarded Life Membership 1962
Bath R. F. C Honorary Surgeon 1927-1949.
In September 1921 Doctor Scott Reid had his first contact with Bath Football Club having only worked at his practice for two weeks, when in walked a spare, bespectacled, scholastic looking gentleman Eddie Simpkins the Honorary Secretary of the club. As a former member of London Scottish RFC they purportedly indicated that “a transfer fee of £2000” had been set if Dr Scott Reid was to be allowed to join the Bath club! Can you afford me? asked the Doctor. “No”, was the answer.
After a couple of drinks the doctor was persuaded to join the Bath Club where he spent many years, his one regret being that he never had the honour of wearing a Bath jersey.
In his address to Members at the 1938 A.G.M, Dr. Scott Reid “raised the banner of a robust optimism in respect of the future. ……There is not much wrong with a club that can beat Bristol, Gloucester and Weston-super-Mare.” It was one of his best ‘shots’ at those who thought the rugby being played by Bath was deteriorating.
