Tom started out with Bath as a flanker but was successfully converted into a prop forward. Tom gained much needed senior experience with Keynsham in season 2001/2002 and returned to the club wilier in the ways of front row play. He made a Ist XV team appearance in the 18pts-17pts mid-season friendly win over Glasgow Caledonians in 1999/2000 in a back row with Rich Bryan and Ben Sturnham. This was his only officially recognised first team outing.  He took a switch in positions when leaving the club to join Plymouth Albion and enjoyed success under Graham Dawe for club and county as Devon won the 2004 Tetley’s County Championship at Twickenham prior to Bath’s 2004 Zurich Premiership Final with London Wasps.
