1906-1907 ANECDOTES
15/9/1906 Club TrialTACKLE DISCREETLY!
Writing in the Chronicle, “THE SPY,” after expressing concern at the hard state of the ground, continued:
“I would appeal to those who turn out to tackle discreetly and not with undue force, for in my time I have witnessed some sad accidents at these preliminary canters and in my humble opinion the exercise of a little restraint would have avoided several of them. No trial is worth the candle if players are knocked out, so I trust this caution will be taken in good part, and the tackling will not be at all rough.”
