The Nephew of H.G.V.Powlett (4th Duke of Cleveland) and as such inherited the Bathwick Estate in 1891. The estate comprised large areas of land in the parish of Bathwick and the family names have been given to various roads within the City. He sold the Recreation Ground to The Bath and County Recreation Ground Company on 6th April 1922 for £6050.00. As well as an interest in Rugby Football he was a keen amateur jockey. Not known to have played.
