EXTRACTS FROM A MEETINGS HELD AT THE R.U.H BATH IN 1898.

Letters were read from Mr Parker as he met with an accident while playing against Exeter on Jan 1st 1898 asking the committee for his insurance, it was therefore proposed by Mr Clarke and seconded by Mr Parham that he be paid £1 for his accident.

It was proposed by Mr Florain that the Captains Vice Captain Hon Secretaries Hon Treasures & Referee be entertained at dinner at fishers on Feb 10/98 with the Keble College R.F.C.

It was then proposed by Mr Gilley & seconded by Mr Sants that the dissatisfaction which has been shown as to all teams selected by some members who had recently played for the 1st XV.

This was brought to the notice of the Executive by Col Perkins, and after full discussion and reports from the selection committee it was fully confirmed.

EXTRACTS FROM A EXTRAORDINARY MEETING HELD AT THE R.U.H BATH ON FEB 10TH 1898.

This meeting was called to discuss a complimentary dinner, also a wedding present to Mr Soane on his retirement and marriage.

A letter was received from the Rugby Football Union regarding selection for Testimonials, stating that players selected must not receive any money, and monies must not be given out of club funds. Clubs would have to apply to the County committee. (This letter is enclosed in our club records from 3 Danes Inn Strand WC )

Money for Mr Soan wedding present was sanctioned by Somerset County Union.( a suite of furniture). There was continuous debate regarding Mr Soane’s wedding present for several months regarding the money paid for the furniture but was sorted out by Somerset R.F.U.

The Mayor was also asked if the Guildhall could be used for the function and an invite was given to the Mayor to attend. The price of the dinner was 3/6 per head. Cater Stoffell & Fortt to be asked provide the dinner.

EXTRACTS FROM A EXTRAORDINARY MEETING HELD AT THE R.U.H BATH ON 21st Feb 1898

Frome R.F.C

Proposed by Mr Hooper and seconded by Mr Parham that Frome F.C pay the club £2.10 towards the expenses of the club in consequences of their 2nd XV being unable to send a team to play the extra xv their return match on Feb 12th 1998.

Members Henshaw, Freeman, Hooper Stockwell, T.N Parham. W Sants were appointed as a sub Committee to carry out arrangements, the first two named as members to interview Cater Stoffell &Fortt as to the dinner.

EXTRACTS FROM A MEETING HELD AT THE R.U.H BATH ON March 7th 1898

It was proposed by Mr Freeman and seconded by Mr Sants that Mr A.E Fry be paid his Insurance for his accident £1.11 having been laid up for a week, the Hon Secretary was instructed to write to him asking him to write to Mr Stockwell.

EXTRACTS FROM A MEETING HELD AT THE R.U.H BATH ON 5th April 1898

Hospital Charity Match to be played on the Recreation Ground on April 12th Bath F.C v The Rest of Bath .Admission the same as for 1st XV matches. Mr H Davis to be asked to referee. Mr Sants to arrange the hospital collection boxes.

Mr Morgan’s claim was read asking 32/=per week for 4 weeks, £6.12 -2 bottles embrocation 2/ 2 bottles lotion 2/ total £6.12.

After considerable discussion it was proposed by Mr Parham that Mr Morgan be informed that no claim for compensation can be considered until he has qualified himself as a member of the club and paying his subscription .

Mr Piper proposed a vote  of thanks to the Mayor for presiding at the dinner, and allowing us to use his room for the dinner. Mr Sants also proposed a vote of thanks to Cooling and Sons for allowing us to use his plants also at the dinner.

EXTRACTS FROM A MEETING HELD AT THE R.U.H BATH ON 4th May 1898

 

Barrow RFC wrote asking for a match in 1898 their offer was declined, Devonport Albion RFC was also declined for a match 1898 on account of distance.

It was proposed by Mr Sants seconded by Mr Florrin that Treorchy FC be offered £10 for a match in Bath on Boxing Day December 26th 1898.

Also a letter was read from Percy Park offering to play Bath on Easter Monday1899 it was proposed byMr Sants and seconded by Mr Freeman that they be offered the same guarantee as last season £15.

Mr T.N Parham reported that £2.17 was collected in the boxes and that £4.14 was the net gate taken at the match played for the benefit of the Royal United Hospital on Easter Tuesday.

EXTRACTS FROM A MEETING HELD AT THE 4 Bath Street BATH ON 30th June 1898

The Hon Sec reported that Treorchy RFC had accepted the offer of Bath F.C for £12 to play a match on Boxing Day. Percy Park declined the offer Bath FC offer of Easter Monday /99

Penylan F.C  It was proposed by Mr TN Parham  seconded  by Mr Hooper that the offer of the Penylyn FC re the payment of their Railway Fares to Bath on September 24/98 also £1 towards any extra expense .Accepted.

The Hon Sec was requested to write and ask Capt Forester to accept the post of President of the club. Mr T.N Parham, J.R Davison to be Hon Treasurer, Mr Derrick to be captain.

EXTRACTS FROM A.G.M MEETING HELD AT THE 4 Bath Street BATH ON 15th July 1898

The Chairman read out the balance Sheet Receipts £698.18 Exspences £608.39 leaving a balance of £90.43 compared with £124 in 1896-97

Mr Henshaw then proposed the election of Col Forester as president in the place of Sir R S Blaine JP (Carried) Mr Clark then proposed Mr Wells seconded That Mr Soane name be added to the Vice Presidents. (Carried) Mr Soan then proposed Mr F Derrick as Captain (Carried) Mr A E Sheppard was elected captain of the A team.

A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Butcher for auditing the club accounts on the proposal of the Chairman and was seconded by Mr Florrias.

A vote of thanks was also passed on to the club Doctors.
