Forester Francis

by Mike Curling

Captain Francis Forester

President 1889-1926

The nephew of H.G.V.Vane (4th Duke of Cleveland) and as such inherited the Bathwick Estate and other Somerset properties in 1891. He sold the Recreation Ground to The Bath and County Recreation Ground Company for £6,050.00. As well as an interest in Rugby  Football he was a keen amateur jockey. Not known to have played.

As owners of the Bathwick Estate various members of the Vane family (who adopted the name Powlett by marriage at a later date) used their  names  when properties were developed in Bathwick. Hence Powlett Road,  Forester Road, Avenue and Lane. and Rockliffe Road and Avenue after Rockliffe Park Darlington a previous residence of Capt. Forester.
