Great hands, fiercely combative

All action flanker James Cockle staked his claim for a regular place in the London Irish squad with a string of top quality performances that culminated in a Powergen Cup Winners medal in the defeat of Northampton Saints at Twickenham in 2002.

The product of Prior Park School in Bath he made only one appearance for Bath Rugby on the 11th November 1996 in the 45pts-17pts victory over Coventry at Coundon Road. James marked his card for the future though by crossing for one of Bath’s tries that night. After brief spells at Moseley and then Bedford, he settled at Irish in 2000 swiftly becoming an integral part of the Exiles play.
