Career details:

Two times capped French international prop forward Alessio Galasso joined Bath Rugby from French Championship semi finalists AS Montferrand in 2002. The 28-year-old had played a major role in helping his side reach the last four in France the previous season, thanks to his bustling style of play and effective scrummaging technique. Galasso won his first cap for France in 2000 in the comfortable French victory over Romania in Bucharest, after impressing in the France ‘A’ side for which he had won 16 caps. He then had to wait for a second full cap though, but it eventually arrived when he came on as a replacement in the 19pts-48pts defeat to England at Twickenham a year later. Born on the 29th May 1974 in Dakar, the capital of Senegal, Alessio stood 5 ft 11” and weighed in at 248 lbs in his prime. He had begun his rugby with Toulon, before moving to AS Montferrand in 2000 in a bid to further his international career. His first appearance for Bath Rugby came in a pre-season friendly match at the Brewery Field with Bridgend. Alessio was one of a number of second half replacements used as Michael Foley “checked out” the majority of his first team squad. He subsequently made his league debut in the narrow 24pts-22pts win over London Irish in September 2002 and completed a total of 31 matches for the club before a close season transfer saw him return to France to play for Castres. Galasso’s tight scrummaging technique and imposing frame made him one of the more feared members of that illustrious front row union that pulled on the Blue, Black and White.
