Career details:

Educated in Bath, Joe Mbu signed for local rivals Bristol Shoguns and was a member of their back-to-back Championship winning sides before leaving to join Bath midway through the 2001/2002 season. The strong, quick winger made an impact for the Shoguns in the Middlesex Sevens in 2001, so much so that he was asked to make a  guest appearance for an injury-ravaged Newcastle Falcons in the Final against the British Army. Typically he showed his pace and flair with a quality try in what was ultimately a defeat. After spending the end of the 2001/2002 season with the under-21 side, Joe made his senior Bath Rugby appearance in the pre-season friendly match with Bridgend in August 2002. He came on as a half-time replacement for Gareth Knox and had an immediate impact, capping a fine performance with a well-taken try. After work permit problems in late 2003 Joe decided to leave Bath Rugby and try his luck elsewhere, signing for NEC Harlequins in the summer of 2004.
