Les was Vice Captain of the King Edwards School team.

On leaving school he joined the YMCA Rugby Club and after a season of being a reserve, gained a regular place in the 1st XV.

Les was one of the original members of the Bath Old Edwardians Club (established in 1925) and was elected captain in 1928. He was obliged to resign his office on being selected for the Bath Club.

A whole hearted and fast forward of excellent physique, Les was well known for his cheerfulness.

On one occasion he was “selected” three minutes before the team was due to leave for Birmingham and after running to the station entered the window of the last carriage of the train minus hat, coat and kit!

Les was one of the stars of Avon Rowing Club.
